The Maiden is Blushing

The Lilacs are in bloom!  The backyard and the neighborhood smell so beautiful!  The colorful petals
of the lilac flowers inspired me to do a photoshoot with FairMaiden Polish.  The following images are the color Maiden's Blush.

On a Wing and a Prayer

Saturday we took a drive to Backus Minnesota, 40 miles north of Brainerd on Highway 371.  Tim arranged to meet a guy who was selling a Cessna right wing.  Yes. Wing.  Seems our plane is showing a little age (as we all do) turning the 50 year corner.
If you do something on a wing and a prayer, you do it hoping that you will succeed although you are not prepared enough for it.  The drive was new to our eyes, but still a bit drab, as spring has not fully sprung in vacation-land. The Backus airport is a neat little grass strip, and I spent some time checking it out with Henry in the hot afternoon sun. I had my camera, but I just could not get the creative juices going.  It was just a yellow, dried out grass strip. We had a friend join us, and he was a friendly old boy...an outdoor dog who must have almost lost an eye at some part of his life.
A picture of the old yellow lab that joined Henry and I as we walked the length of the grass strip

At the other end of the grass strip sat an old Checker automobile

Color my world

There's a new fad in our family, FairMaidenPolish. It's all the rage with the indie nail polish people of the world.  Adrienne and her best friend Sarah combined their talent and started experimenting with mixing up batches of nail polish.  They got really good at it, did their homework and are now successfully selling it on social networks -Facebook-Instagram and FairMaidenPolish.com

Product photography is a different ball of wax vs. portrait.  Shine and reflection are your largest friend and worst enemy.  Macro photography picks up dust and other imperfections that the naked eye wouldn't catch....AND lighting is a real bugger.  The product shoot yesterday involved continuous lighting as close as we could get the lights to the flammable product without conducting fire! Here is what we got:

The Coolest Place I've Ever Slept!

April 2, 2015

One of the most beautiful places we have ever driven through is... LaCrosse, Wisconsin.  Tim and I discovered this beautiful countryside - September of 2008 when we flew 41Charlie in for a visit.
We were awe struck with the rolling hills, bluffs,  green pastures, farming country,
and sightings of the Amish community.

We saw many signs of years gone by, including this rough hewn home.

In May 2013 I became fascinated with one room school
houses when we accidentally stumbled upon the BEST one room school house!

The door to the place invited us in and as we opened
the door I found a new passion to photograph.

So it's no wonder why Tim would surprise me with a weekend away with a stay overnight to the Wilson SchoolHouse Inn.  It is a wonderfully preserved/restored brick schoolhouse... loaded with the character and charm of days long ago.  Our stay was the coolest place I've ever slept!

April 2015  -  LaCrosse

Large windows bring beautiful light into this school.  Good light is a necessity for a room to learn in.
The entrance is wide and welcoming.

The main room is the perfect blend of saving schoolhouse details and adding elements of comfort.
I passed on writing on the chalk board and used the eraser and chalk as my subjects for this photo.
Wide deep windowsill perfect for this vase of pussy willows.
I hung my jacket on number 21.

BUT this trip to LaCrosse also included me photographing 12 other one room school houses in  LaCrosse and Vernon counties.    I have included the gps location of each of these houses so that you can visit them too!

Spring walk

Henry and I had a few things to check out at Veteran's Park March 9 th.  Are the red wing black birds around yet? What about those sticker bushes? Will they be here this Spring?  Yep. Too many to count had to be removed.
