VCR

I've rediscovered a purchase I made 4 years ago!  EZcap is a software that can convert your VCR video tapes to digital media.  I lost interest 4 years ago...because there are SO many tapes to convert.

So let's start again with the shorts:

Memorial Day 2016

I happened to catch a MPR snipet  that I really enjoyed.  In the car-forced to listen- Garrison Keillor and some words about Memorial Day

Tenting Tonight, Just Before the Battle, Mother, Battle Hymn of the Republic - GK, Heather Masse, Chris Thile, Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks, and the band.

Photo Challenge Update

The Photo challenge lives two lives this time.  Here on my blog and on Facebook.  The Facebook postings are to compliment the art of friend Barb Blahoski who is also challenging her creativity.

Day 17:  Tall
I took this picture last Saturday at the Chippewa Valley Regional Airport.
I love the sky and the blue gradient.

Day 16:  Water
This is the bottom of my glass of selzer water with ice. The glass was outside facing the west and the sun was hitting the glass in various places. I used my lensbaby which is tricky without a tripod.
See all the little rainbows?

Day 15: Flight
Heading NE for runway 22 Chippewa Valley Regional Airport over the Chippewa River, Wisconsin.

Day 14:  Black
I had some fun with pic monkey before I posted this.

Day 12: Life
Truth be told I had to cheat tonight. This is an image from 2009
I DO have several nests of sparrows again this year. I dragged (or is it drug) out the 7 foot wooden ladder both last night and tonight. Both nests were empty... Darn!!

Day 11: Destruction
The sun lit the roots of this tree perfectly tonight for my photo challenge.

Praag

Today was a rainy humid day to start off the Memorial Day weekend.  It's been a few weeks since I've fattened my album with pictures of one-room schools.  So I talked Tim into checking out Praag Wisconsin.  Praag is located in Buffalo County Wisconsin tucked behind the green rolling hills of Alma.

B   e   a   u   t    i   f   u  l  countryside!

I usually take some time plotting out our drive.  I've found the large Delorme Atlas Gazetteer the BEST way to roam the countryside looking for one room schools.

So with atlas, pup, camera and a few bottles of water we set out on Highway 35 S.

The first school was the best. It was located right down the road from a quaint cemetery and church.  There were a few people visiting the cemetery paying their respects on this Memorial Day Weekend.

Tim did what we both wanted to do and went past the fence to go inside the school.
He came out and said it was "pitch black and aromatic ...there may be an animal in there!"

Not All Who Wander are Lost

Recently I read Jerry Apps Blog and he shared some remarkable life quotes.  I'm not sure which quote is my favorite but I liked them all so much I wanted to save and share:

-No one is in charge of your happiness except you.

-What other people think of you isn't your problem.

-Don't take yourself too seriously.

-Envy is a waste of time.  Hard work will get you what you need.

Read more books.  Spend less time in front of screens.

-Realize that life is a school and you're here to learn.

-Make peace with your past so it doesn't ruin your present.

-Smile and laugh more.

-Don't compare yourself with others; you don't know what their journey is all about.

-Time heals

-Try new things. Enjoy the moment.

Compact Flash Cards

When I was in photography school I can remember a discussion our instructor lead that was about the lifespan of a compact flash card.  Tonight that discussion came back to mind as I realized an old flash card of mine is probably for the trash can.  Shooting for the photo challenge day 9: "group"  I started out with my camera and ring flash and an old card.  The images just didn't seem quite as crisp and the focus wandered.

My lens said I had focus yet this image looks like slight blur.  Not one heart is crisp.  Now compare that to this image taken with my newer compact flash card.

Even the color is more vibrant!

Tim is my very own Harvey Klinger Insect Collector.  You're dating yourself if you know who Harvey is..... but neither Henry or I would have half as much fun if he was any different.
I love my Harvey Klinger!!  Eat your heart out Marcia Brady.

I was informed that this was a Phyllophaga, a genus of beetles in the subfamily Melolonthinae of the family Scarabaeidae, also known as June bugs or June beetles.

Photo Challenge Day 5:  Insect

Finding an insect was quite a challenge for me today.  I almost resorted to cheating and using something a had in my files.
Then I remembered I have these plastic insects.  My plan was going to be some sort of optical illusion with the Wasp in the toybox.  But when I finally rescued him from under the Polly Pockets he looked a bid worn and tattered..missing one antennae and several legs.

Lame picture of a plastic wasp

The ants outside our house busy at work.
I took 20 shots of these guys = one good one.

Tim saved the challenge by delivering a dead hornet.
That's my guy... : )  luv him

Spring Blossoms

Photo Challenge

It's been a challenge getting back to photography this spring.  I think a good old fashioned photo challenge is a good idea.  Tomorrow =  day 1.
